Join the community

Community is the fan-side of FoundryInk: a public space, open to anyone with an account, where readers gather around the studios and series they love, or around their own topics entirely. This page shows how to find a room and join it.

Read time about 6 min

1Fans here, colleagues elsewhere

Community is deliberately separate from the Collaborate Console. Collaborate is for the colleagues you work with; Community is for fans. You take part here as an ordinary reader, and even in a room about your own studio you are a member, not the owner. Rooms come in a few flavours: a free-standing Fan room on any topic, a Reading group tied to a series (members leave notes page by page as they read), a Studio group, and a Genre group spanning every studio in a genre.

There are no direct messages in Community. DMs are a colleague feature over in Collaborate. Also, following a studio may surface its community, but it does not auto-join you.
Pro note
Reading groups and genre groups show up right on the series and studio pages, so you can join from the work itself.

2Find a room and join it

The Community hub shows the rooms you've joined. To find more, open Discover. It lists public rooms plus every listed studio as a joinable community, a studio appears here as soon as it's listed, even before anyone has opened its room (joining materialises the room on the spot). Search filters by name, and each entry shows a glyph, a public or invite-only badge, and a short description. Press Join, or Open if you're already in.

Discover chat groups: search rooms by name or topic, or filter by kind such as Studio communities.

Invite-only rooms don't appear to non-members at all and need an invite from an owner or moderator.
Pro note
Joining a studio's room for the first time is what creates it. You could be the first one in.

3Inside a room

Every room starts with a #general channel, and owners and moderators can add more; pick one from the sidebar. Messages run down the page with author and time, updating live as people post. Anything tagged NSFW or spoiler stays hidden behind a click to reveal, and removed messages just show as message removed. The composer (members only) takes Markdown, sends on Enter, adds a new line on Shift and Enter, and accepts images.

Uploaded images are held for a safety scan and only appear once they clear. That pause is the system working, not a bug.
Pro note
Tag your spoilers. Nothing sours a reading group faster than page forty landing in somebody's eyeline on page four.

4Keeping it a nice place

Public chat with images is the riskiest surface on the platform, so the safety stack is always on. Anyone can report a message (spam, harassment, untagged NSFW, illegal, or other) and it goes to the platform Trust and Safety queue. Every uploaded image is scanned before it becomes visible. A profanity gate rejects blocked language on send, and per-user message and upload rate limits curb flooding.

Moderators can delete a message or tag it NSFW or spoiler. Platform Trust and Safety sits above every room and can override a studio's moderation.
Pro note
Report, don't retaliate. The queue is real and someone reads it.

Quick questions

No. Community has no DMs by design; it's a fan space. Direct messages are a colleague feature in the Collaborate Console, between people who are connected.

No. Following keeps up with their work. Joining a room is a separate, deliberate choice.

It's probably invite-only. Those don't appear to non-members and need an invite from the room's owner or a moderator.

Every uploaded image is scanned before it becomes visible. Anything still pending or quarantined is never shown, so give it a moment.

A room tied to a series where members read together and leave notes page by page. They surface on the series page, so you can join straight from the work.

You're in good company

A room, a channel, and a spoiler tag well used. Last stop, make the account itself yours.
