FoundryInk sells no advertising, ever. That's a promise to readers, and it means marketing here is not about buying attention. It's three honest engines instead: bring your own audience in, be findable in search, and be loud everywhere else. Here's how a creator drives traffic, both outside the product and within it, without ever running an ad.
Because nobody can buy their way to the top here, the whole system runs on honest signal. So the golden rule for everything below: what you make to promote your work must be genuine content that represents the work itself, never an advertisement dressed up as content. This matters most for Shorts. A Short that is really just an advert, rather than a true slice of your comic, can be reported by any reader as Spam, scam, or misleading from your asset's public page. Keep your promotion real and it works for you; fake it and the community removes it.
A Short is a free, vertical discovery teaser, and it's the single best organic format going. On an eligible asset (a comic strip, art, slideshow, video, comic, or zine) that is free and published, open the Content tab and switch on Show in Shorts. Tall 9:16 is recommended but not required. Some kinds play inline in the Shorts rail; comics and zines show a teaser that links to the full book. Then take that same clip off-platform, post it to your socials with a link back, and you've turned one asset into reach.
Your existing fans are the highest-intent traffic there is, and the product makes it your brand, not someone else's. Claim a vanity subdomain from your studio Settings so your page reads as yours. Use the Embed button in your studio header to drop Embed your store (your whole shop, or a single series) onto your own blog or website, where every view links back to buy. And from the QR Codes tab, make a branded code for a print cover, a con table, or a poster, and watch which placement actually pulls scans.
Search is the channel that keeps paying after you stop working, so make it easy for search engines to understand your pages. If your studio has the SEO and Sharing tab in the issue editor, set a clear SEO title and SEO description and some image alt text. Leave Auto-generate on publish on to fill any gaps for you, and don't tick Hide page from search engines on anything you actually want found. Whatever else you do, keep your studio Listed, which is what puts your pages in the sitemap in the first place.
The no-ads rule forbids ad units on FoundryInk. It does not stop you being everywhere else. The Share button sits on every studio, series, issue, and profile, so posting out to the world is a tap. If your studio has SEO and Sharing, publishing can even auto-post to your connected accounts, connect them under Settings, then Social (Bluesky, X, Mastodon, Threads, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Patreon). And chase earned reach too: get reviewed by a critic, list your shop in the directory, and show up on the events calendar.
Traffic is a rhythm, not a launch. Post news and updates from your studio on a steady cadence, run an AMA, send an audience broadcast, and add your events so people have a reason to keep checking in. Reward the regulars with a reader challenge so following you feels like leveling up. And turn your best fans into recruiters: set up affiliates so promoters earn a cut for the readers they bring, and hand out coupons to give them something to share.
Honest reach, one lever at a time. Links into the app. Saved on this device.
Not on FoundryInk, there are no ad units, by design. What you can do is make honest teasers (especially Shorts), bring your own audience in, get your SEO right, and be loud on your own channels off-platform. A Short that is really an advert rather than genuine content can be reported as Spam, scam, or misleading.
It's a studio feature that a FoundryInk admin enables per studio. If you don't see it, ask to have it turned on. In the meantime, clear titles and descriptions on your work, and staying Listed, still help search find you.
A vanity subdomain (yourname.foundryink.com) is free and self-serve from your studio Settings. A custom domain (your own dot-com) is a paid add-on you ask an admin to enable. Both make your page read as your brand.
Instagram requires an image, so an issue with no cover is skipped. Give every book a cover and it'll go through. Auto-share also needs your studio to have SEO and Sharing enabled and your accounts connected under Settings, then Social.
A true slice of the work: a striking page, a moment, a hook, on a free and published asset, ideally shot tall at 9:16. Not a commercial about the work. The genuine ones perform better here anyway, because there's no ad noise to hide behind.
Two places. Affiliates lets people earn a share for the sales they bring in, and coupons give them a discount worth sharing. Both are in your studio, and both reward the word-of-mouth that a no-ads platform runs on.
Real teasers, your own audience, sharp SEO, and a steady drumbeat. No ad ever bought reach this loyal. Next, sell the physical stuff too.
